Is safety glass used in all exterior home doors? I locked myself out today, without keys, shoes, or cellphone, and with my oven on. None of my neighbors are home during the day, so I decided I had to get inside somehow. We have a back door with the top half of the door being glass with wood squares forming or simulating panes. I tried to break out one pane with a hammer and after beating on the glass with all my might for quite awhile it didn't break. I was finally able to use a long flathead screwdriver between the door knob and frame and pop open the door (which is ok because we also have a dead bolt we can use). Now I'm wondering if all exterior doors have safety glass? This made me feel much better about break-ins considering I had such a horrible time breaking into my own home!

How to buy paint for a home with ugly doors and frames? Our door frames are the old cheap wooden frames that are like a milk chocolate brown. We can't really afford to purchase new doors and frames. What colors do you suggest for painting the room around it? We have a royal blue sofa that we just can't part with. Other than the brown and blue, we're willing to put things on our walls to make everything come together. I really like the contemporary look and am attracted to neutral colors. Any ideas?
mobile home doors? I'm having an impossible time finding a 22 x 80 bedroom door for a trailer, why do mobile homes always have the most unusual (inconvenient) measurements? would your big chain stores like Lowe's or Home Depot possibly carry these? i don't have either near me, but i'd be willing to make a special trip
Can my lanlord shut off our utilities, remove our doors, and enter my home wihout me, to evict me faster? my lanlord, also an attorney, gave us a 24 hour eviction notice. since then, he has removed our outside doors to our residence, plus 2 inside doors, shut off our utilities, and put some of my belongings that I had packed into a trash pile. we have 2 small children (ages 6 & 8). He has come over and harassed us almost everyday, even getting in my daughters face and yelling at her, yelling all kinds of profanities. We had no lease, and my husband worked for him to pay the rent, until he fired almost all of his workers. My husband then had a verbal agreement that if he fixed the roof of the garage that would be one month's rent. He evicted us anyway, He now enters the home with his workers anytime he chooses, because he wants to turn the house into a haunted house. I have stayed with friends about 30 miles away for the last few days, but most of our belongings are still in the house and I don't want them destroyed. I don't have a car that runs, so I have no way to get back and get them This is NOT a court ordered eviction, he gave us a 24 hour notice typed up by his office staff. He continually is at our house harassing us, even my children. He yells profanities at our children, has ran our names down in the town we live in so we can;t get a job, therefore not having enough money to rent somewhere else. He threw some of the things I had packed and sitting by my doorway in a trash pile, saying that nothing we had was worth anything. He is in the house constantly, because he is turning it into a haunted house. (it use to be an old two story doctor's office) We have stayed with friends for about 4 days now, but don't have a car to go back, and get our things, even clothes. The man is an attorney, but I don't feel like any of this is legal. He removed doors inside as well, and when I got doors to hang myself, he came and removed them also.
Who has better quality doors, Lowes (Reliabilt) or Home Depot (Jeld-Wen)? Trying to decide which interior doors to buy for my new house. The price is almost exact to the dollar so now it comes down to quality. Lowes carries the Reliabilt door by ABS and Home Depot carries the Jeld-Wen door. Does anyone have a reccommendation on one over the other? Please help me out with my decision. thanks!
how is the best way to install a set of patio doors to a home with a concrete slab? Do you need to scre the threshold down or can use just a sealer under it? If you have to use masonry screws do you set the door and get it plumb and then drive the screws or do you have to pull the door out and try to set up some anchors under the threshold? The stupid company who made this door doesnt have any instructions on how to install the door with a concrete slab.

Where can I find a mobile home warehouse in Louisiana? We have a wood frame house in Southwest Louisiana. The back door on the North side leaks when it rains. The only potential solution I have found is to put a screen door to seal the area. The portion of the house with the leaky door is an add on, and the door frame is smaller than regular- it is the size of a mobile home door. I need to locate a manufactor of mobile home supplies/stuff so we can hopefully stop the rain from comming in before it does permenant damage. Lowe's and Home Depot have said they do not special order screen doors in that size. Please help if you can.
When making home improvements, which is of more value in the long run - Pocket Doors or Interior French Doors? I am cutting a hole in a wall between my living room and a spare bedroom that we no longer use. What I'm going to do is to put my sleeper sofa in the new open area for when we do have guests that spend the night. I have 2 options: I can put a set of interior french doors (5') that can be closed for guests or left open to have a larger area. The second option is to put a set of pocket doors in and I can use 36" doors for a wider opening. The cost is about the same either way I go. Anyone have any ideas?
